It is Techtain's belief that a cleaner world where people waste less by recognizing the needs of others is feasible. It is Techtain's philosophy that when possible, when people choose not to destroy something but to give it to someone who earnestly needs it, then as one big family we all make the world a better place where bonds are strengthened.

Techtain was created out of pain - pain caused by rampant waste and inefficient markets. No single person is self sufficient, or at least, most are not. Amongst others, students are often on very tight budgets. Essential is the need for appropriate ways to reduce their spending rates. For non-students and families, they also seldom have all they need, maybe as a result of limited resources or as a result of unavailability in markets; some goods and services are just not available in markets in certain areas. However, under normal circumstances, the aggregate number of goods and services in people's possession is greater that the total number in the markets. Additionally, in the long term and in the United States in particular, there are more items being wasted or disposed of than being owned. As humans, our rate of replenishment is lower than our rate of wastage simply because the former is a subset of the latter and we are not always able to replace even things that we must discard.
As goes the saying, one man's trash is another's treasure.
Techtain strives to deliver what it sees at its social duty: strengthening bonds by using valuables as the links between people. As Joe approaches the dumpster, about to get rid of what he does not need, Techtain hurries to interfere by informing Joe's friend that an item she has been hoping to own is actually on its way to be disposed of - and even more, that the item to be thrown away is owned by her friend and next door neighbor, Joe. There are only two fundamental problems: the need to know what Joe is about to part with, and the need to know what Joe's friend really needs. Techtain takes care of the rest.
